The OHSU School of Dentistry (SOD) Portland Oral Health Research Training (PORT) Program is currently accepting applications for trainees. This program, which encompasses PreDoctoral, Dual Degree, PostDoctoral, and OHSU Dental Student tracks, is a mentored research fellowship-training program focused on oral and craniofacial health research. The PORT Program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge for a career in academic research, with a specific emphasis on Basic Science or Clinical Translational Research. Funding for the program is generously provided by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR).

All trainees are expected to dedicate themselves to full-time research training, typically defined as 40 hours per week or in accordance with the policies of the sponsoring institution. Appointments are generally made for 12-month increments, with an initial period of appointment lasting no less than 9 months, unless approved otherwise by the awarding unit.

The program encourages research focusing on basic or clinical research in areas such as Oral and Craniofacial Health, Biomaterials or Tissue Engineering, Microbiology and Immunology, and Community Health.

During the evaluation process, applicants will be assessed by PORT Program Directors in collaboration with their mentors and PhD advisers (if applicable). Evaluation criteria include prior education and research experience, publications and awards, leadership qualities, program fit, potential for future funding, long-term academic and/or professional career in research, and the promotion of diversity within the PORT program's trainees.
