UM Scholars at MDH: Summer Research Opportunities at the Maryland Department of Health (Summer 2026)

UM Scholars at MDH is a unique summer enrichment experience that connects students from University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) to research opportunities and experiences at the Maryland Department of Health (MDH).

UM Scholars at MDH provides participating UMB and UMCP students with opportunities to explore research through mentorship while introducing career perspectives, new ideas, and pathways.

UM Scholars is a signature initiative of the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower). 

  • Project Descriptions: Review the Project Brochures before submitting your application.
     
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, starting in late January.
    • Final Application Deadline: Sunday, February 22, 2026, by 11:59 PM
       
  • Stipend Amount: Varies by education level; see project brochures.
     
  • Program Timeline: The default schedule is May 26–July 31 (10 weeks), but flexibilities can be considered on a case-by-case basis.
     
  • Applying to Multiple Projects: Allowed, but students must submit a separate application essay for each project. Selected students will each only work on one project.
     
  • Questions about the projects: email the contact person of the applicable project (see last page of the project brochures).

To Start an Application: 

  • University of Maryland, College Park students: 
    • Click "Create Profile" 
    • Make sure to save your Research Logix username and password so you can go back in and edit your application(s) later. 
    • You only need to create a profile once. The next time you try to log in, you will click "Log into Research Logix"  
       
  • University of Maryland, Baltimore students: 
    • Click "Log into Research Logix"
    • Click "Sign In with University" 
    • Find the UMB Logo.
    • Sign in using your UMB credentials.
